Duncan Chisholm is one of Scotland’s most recognised and accomplished fiddle players and composers. Born and brought up near Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland, Duncan has spent most of his life developing his unique musical voice. Fiddle playing at its best, Duncan’s feather-light handling of dynamics and ornamentation, allied with his pure-distilled tone, lend his characteristic spine-tingling magic to his music. The Door of Saints closely followed Redpoint; a beautiful album inspired by the music of Northern Spain. Duncan then embarked on his Strathglass Trilogy, mixing traditional tunes with contemporary sounds. Having composed music for several BBC documentaries and written more than half of the tunes presented on his latest release, Duncan has been labelled the new sound of traditional Scotland.

Duncan Chisholm's Sandwood draws its inspiration from a single location in Sutherland, the furthest northwest part of mainland Scotland. Over the two years it took for him to produce this album, experiencing the bay in all seasons and weathers, the place provided endless inspiration. Inspiration to compose magnificently atmospheric pieces but also to enthuse ten of Scotland’s finest musicians, ensuring their participation, some just in the recording, others also contributing to the compositions. The album opens with The Pilgrimage, the word Duncan uses to describe his first visit to Sandwood

Fiddle Player and Composer. Perhaps, just perhaps, words cannot describe the spirit-of-place that lingers here.

Wicked Saints is the thrilling start to Emily A. Duncan’s devastatingly Gothic Something Dark and Holy trilogy. Wicked Saints is truly a lavish tale that echoes nostalgic memories of all your favourite YA high fantasy novels. I think if it had been published sometime during 2013, this would have taken me by storm. The magic system (only winning factor) and the world building (although lacking) was both interesting and enticing. Okay, so the pitch is this; A girl can talk to Gods, a Prince is at Death's door and a monster is looking for redemption. The three of them must ally to stop the war currently ravaging the two opposed countries.
