Chris LeDoux was a rodeo cowboy who sang and recorded songs in his spare time and sold his albums from the back of his truck. With his father, he started his own record label, American Cowboy Songs, in 1970. Under that label he released 22 albums between 1971 and 1990. After gaining recognition from the 1989 Garth Brooks song, "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)" he was signed to Liberty Records, where he released 4 studio albums in four years.

Chris LeDoux (October 2, 1948 – March 9, 2005) was an American country music singer-songwriter, bronze sculptor, and hall of fame rodeo champion. During his career LeDoux recorded 36 albums (many self-released) which have sold more than six million units in the United States as of January 2007.

When she gets to old to rodeo too old to ride the range, I'll take the buckskin lady out across the open plains. Cause she's just an ole cow pony and I know she'd go plum crazy If she had to stand unsaddled around the barn the whole day through I'll just turn her loose to ramble underneath them rocky mountains And tell 'em that her workin? days are through. on the plains of colorado That young pony was born to work the trail

Album · 1971 · 11 Songs. When the plaintively titled Songs of Rodeo Life was released in 1972, Chris LeDoux was a 22-year-old aspiring bronco rider who wrote and performed songs as a side outlet. That LeDoux didn’t necessary want or need a career in the mainstream music industry is part of what makes his debut LP so appealing. In the end, there's a plaintive beauty to ballads like Ain’t No Place for a Country Boy and Colorado, but the album succeeds due to its detailed portraits of rodeo culture. Bull Rider and Them Bareback Horses may lack the catchiness of pop country hits, but they have something much more valuable: real-world details and a sense of authentic experience.
