Revolutions is the ninth studio album by electronic musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarre, first released in August 1988. The album reached number in the UK charts, Jarre's best chart position since Oxygène. The Destination Docklands concert in London coincided with the release of the album.

Jean Michel Jarre - Revolutions (1988).

Jean Michel Jarre (born Jean-Michel André Jarre; 24 August 1948) is a French composer, performer, and music producer. He is a pioneer in the electronic, ambient, and new-age genres, and known as an organiser of outdoor spectacles of his music featuring lights, laser displays, and fireworks. Jarre was raised in Lyon by his mother and grandparents, and trained on the piano. Recorded in a makeshift studio at his home, the album sold an estimated 12 million copies. Oxygène was followed in 1978 by Équinoxe, and in 1979 Jarre performed to a record-breaking audience of more than a million people at the Place de la Concorde, a record he has since broken three times. More albums were to follow, but his 1979 concert served as a blueprint for his future performances around the world.

That is true; Jarre breaks no new ground with the release of this album. He does, however, continue to create original music in his own style. He is often imitated and that is the sincerest form of flattery. This album features ten short pieces (five minutes and 22 seconds is the longest) of pop influenced e-music. This disc neither challenges nor offends the listener. It has its moments but it neither soars nor plunges.

Memuro
Certainly not Jean-Michel's strongest album, but still worth a listen. The Révolution Industrielle suite is mind-blowing, Jarre at his absolute best.Révolutions (the original '88 version, not the live recording featured on remasters) is still a striking piece of political statement, full of eastern melody / vocals backed with a throbbing western electronic beat.Computer Weekend is cute, one of those quirky tracks Jarre would throw out there once in a while (think along the lines of Blah Blah Cafe or Band In The Rain). Insanely catchy!Sadly, the rest of the album isn't quite as memorable...Tokyo Kid is drenched in atmosphere, but ends up sounding like backing music to a 1988 crime drama movie.September has what at first are adorable vocals, but they kinda get on your nerves after a few minutes. Then a big diva vocal comes in.It's rather cloying, and oh so very late 80's.L'émigrant is a dirge. You'll be lucky to survive the length without giving up.Finally (and yes, I kept this for last), is London Kid.It's basically The Shadows doing Jarre again (see The Shadows - Equinoxe (Part V)) but this time with big, wet late 80's snares. It's definitely catchy, but damn it sounds so twee.So yeah, check out Révolution Industrielle on the a-side, then flip over to Révolutions. You can live without the rest, to be honest.
Jarortr
Not one of his most memorable albums, definitely not on the same level as Oxygene. It's more or less the same run-on of electronic synth music that seems to be lost in terms of direction and creativity. You'd buy this just to fill out your collection if your a JMJ fan but it's not worth special ordering for.
lacki
Listenable, but probably not as good as his best albums. Standout track is probably the self titled Revolutions, followed by The Emigrant, although Industrial Revolution, occupying much of Side 1, harkens back to classic Jarre. Featuring a lot of Middle Eastern influences, this album took Jarre again to a different sonic world.

Is this the same remaster as Dreyfus one from 1997?

What is the relation of "Revolution, Revolutions" track 6, compared to the same song played live in "Paris La Defense" concert? The track here looks and feels the same thing as played in that concert, and it has atmosphere elements of a live recording.

You'll be better off with any original pressing done in 1988, which has wider and detailed sound. This remaster is not a flop, but the standards followed by Sony boosted additional equalization and loudness. Particularly the bass was pushed to the limit, really over the top. This can feel quite good at first listen, but you will notice that some details have been buried down in the mix. Furthermore, the responsible engineer for the 2014/2015 remasters series has been heavily criticized by Jarre fans... and of course, this is not without a reason.
