I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got is the second album by Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor, released in March 1990 on Ensign/Chrysalis Records. It contains O'Connor's version of the Prince song "Nothing Compares 2 U", which was released as a single and reached number one in multiple countries.

Produced by Sinéad O'Connor. Album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got. I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got Lyrics. I'm walking through the desert And I am not frightened although it's hot I have all that I requested And I do not want what I haven't got I have learned this from my mother See how happy she has made me I will take this road much further Though I know not where it takes me I have water.

Sinead O'Connor's breakthrough is the latest record to receive the deluxe treatment, adding a bonus disc that pointed to her future detours and quirks. And if nothing else on I Do Not Want rises to that level, almost nothing else on any other albums does either. Instead, the record is mostly quiet and folky, the voice-and-guitar ballads alternating with tracks like "I'm Stretched on Your Grave", which combines a traditional melody with the then-ubiquitous "funky drummer" beat, and "Jump in the River", which shows that O'Connor wasn't necessarily suited for writing upbeat songs you might hear on the radio.

Aside from being a brilliant album in its own right, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got foreshadowed the rise of deeply introspective female singer/songwriters like Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan, who were more traditionally feminine and connected with a wider audience. Which takes nothing away from anyone; if anything, it's evidence that, when on top of her game, O'Connor was a singular talent.

Besides, rumor had it that the beautiful young Irish singer shaved her head specifically not to be a Madonna or Samantha Fox. No doubt she could have traded on her looks, but O'Connor wanted her voice to come first. Honestly, I didn't expect much from O'Connor's sophomore effort, released in March 1990. The title seemed unwieldy - I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got - and the cover art was too somber. The album opened with the Serenity Prayer, for crying out loud. But there was definitely a heavy vibe about the era, the Chilis not withstanding.
