On its third release, Brokeback brings the quiet. While Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier and Mary Hansen contribute their exquisite vocals to a few tracks, they're mostly of the wordless sort, used more for spice or texture than as a main ingredient. One of those numbers, "In the Reeds," could almost be mistaken for an outtake from the bossa nova landmark Getz/Gilberto featuring the similarly angelic-sounding Astrud Gilberto. Looks at the Bird is an otherwise instrumental affair with a few jazzy touches here and there.
He attributes this to the sudden arrival of winter. That night, he hears a tapping on his bedroom window and encounters a bird that pecks his hand, causing him to bleed. As the night progresses he encounters more birds, especially those flocking into his children's room, but the birds leave at dawn. Nat reassures his wife that they were restless because of a sudden change in the weather. The next day, Nat tells his fellow workers about the night's events, but they give his story no importance. Mr. Trigg cheerfully professes to be unfazed by the announcements and plans on shooting at the birds for fun. He invites Nat to come along, but Nat rejects Mr. Trigg's offer and continues home, believing that hunting them would be futile. Just before he reaches home, the gulls descend, attacking him with their beaks.

The spectacular 'Brokeback' country seen in the film is the Kananaskis Range around Canmore, on the Trans-Canada Highway southeast of Banff, about 60 miles west of Calgary. The area had already provided spectacular backdrops for 1942 Betty Grable musical Springtime In The Rockies and for 1954 melodrama River Of No Return, with Marilyn Monroe and Robert Mitchum. The first camp is set up at Canyon Creek Road at Range Road 64A, at the foot of Prairie Mountain (south of Moose Mountain). A few highlights you might want to see include the striking escarpment dotted with fir trees, which is Mount Inflexible in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. The park is also featured in X-Men 2.
Free as a Bird is the ninth studio album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in 1987. The album was a turn of direction of sorts, with most of the songs stepping back from their progressive rock sound, employing synthesised dance beats and rhythms. Chief songwriter Rick Davies later recalled, "Free as a Bird was an experiment to try and be modern and build it up with computers and drum machines and have people come in one by one, which makes you lose the band spirit a little bi.

Brokeback Mountain should be renamed Heartbroke Mountain after its heart wrenching ending. Jack realizes that he and Ennis will never be together, because Ennis is too afraid to live openly. Later, Ennis attempts to reconnect, but discovers Jack is dead. Lureen, Jack's wife, tells Ennis on the phone that Jack was changing a tire when it exploded and killed him. As Lureen talks, Ennis imagines Jack being beaten to death with a tire iron. This vision is Ennis's fear manifesting itself. Ennis is deeply afraid of being discovered as gay and being attacked. Inside Jack's childhood bedroom, Ennis opens the window, and looks at Jack's view. For the first time in their relationship, Ennis experiences empathy for Jack. He finally tries to understand the world from Jack's point of view.
