The Sisters of Mercy are an English rock band, formed in 1980 in Leeds. After achieving early underground fame there, the band had their commercial breakthrough in the mid-1980s and sustained it until the early 1990s, when they stopped releasing new recorded output in protest against their record company WEA. Currently, the band are a touring outfit only. The group has released three original studio albums, the last of which was released in 1990.

The discography of the British rock band The Sisters of Mercy consists of three studio albums, two compilation albums, two extended plays (EPs), and sixteen singles. The Sisters of Mercy were formed in Leeds in 1977 by Andrew Eldritch (vocals, drums) and Gary Marx (guitar) and they released their debut single, "The Damage Done" in the same year on their own independent record label, Merciful Release

Eldritch assembled a new group to record their third and, so far, final album, 'Vision Thing', released in 1990 – first recruiting Bruhn on guitars in '89, and then Tony James (formerly of Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Generation X) on bass in '89, and lastly Tim Bricheno (All About Eve) on guitars in '90.

Things you learn from an interview with Sisters Of Mercy singer Andrew Eldritch: he loves Swedish pop, dodgy Japanese movies and cricket on the radio. It’s been 22 years since the last Sisters album, Vision Thing. Are you any closer to releasing a new album? We record bits and pieces from time to time, but we never get around to finishing them, so I don’t think a new album is uppermost in our thoughts. Making an album requires a lot of time and nervous energy and a little bit of money. And I’m not sure my lads want to be tied up for that long doing that – with no prospect of recompense at the end of it. We’re one of the few bands that can sell concert tickets without having to put out an album, so the usual motivation doesn’t apply

Mark Andrews talks to three Sisters of Mercy - Gary Marx, Craig Adams, and Wayne Hussey – and recounts an epochal period in the band’s history. That year was strewn with brilliant singles, EPs and legendary live shows. By the end of it, they stood as one of Britain’s premier independent bands, with a nationwide hardcore following and were ready to make the transition to rock stardom.
