Blood on the Tracks is the 15th studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on January 20, 1975 by Columbia Records. The album marked Dylan's return to Columbia Records after a two-album stint with Asylum Records. Dylan commenced recording the album in New York City in September 1974. In December, shortly before Columbia was due to release the record, Dylan abruptly re-recorded much of the material in a studio in Minneapolis

The 14th release in Bob Dylan’s Bootleg Series unearths the original sessions for his 1975 album Blood on the Tracks. Bob Dylan had crucial second thoughts just as he was about to release Blood on the Tracks, the indelible 1975 album filled with songs of separation, heartache, sorrow, rage and regret. Now it’s getting a revealing close-up.

Blood on the Tracks was originally recorded during four days in New York City in September, 1974. A few months later, Dylan felt the album needed a different approach and rerecorded five of the tracks at Minneapolis Sound 80 Studios beginning in late December of that year. All songs written by Bob Dylan except Spanish is the Loving Tongue (traditional, arranged by Bob Dylan). New York sessions originally engineered by Phil Ramone. Minneapolis sessions originally engineered by Paul Martinson.

Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series pretty much gave up on the casual fan about five years ago when it explored, in depth and on two CDs, the mostly maligned 1969-71 period that yielded Self Portrait, an album that proved the voice of a generation was fallible. Since then, the series has gone deep with six discs of The Basement Tapes, 18 CDs of the celebrated 1965-66 period and a nine-disc look at the born-again era that comes close to Self Portrait for its hatred among Dylanphiles. More Blood, More Tracks: The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 collects every surviving song recorded at the sessions and, like The Cutting Edge: 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12, offers an inside peek into the working habits of one of contemporary music's greatest figures as he pieces together one of his greatest albums.

Bob Dylan’s moody 1975 epic is often referred to as his breakup album, but it might be his most welcoming LP, its music projecting an undeniable warmth. New Morning and other country-pop sessions from the period found Dylan playing with some of the brighter textures he would employ on Blood on the Tracks, but his reluctance to write in the symbolism-laden voice of his earliest years soon resulted in a period when he more or less had amnesia, as he later told an interviewer. Returning to active songwriting in 1973 and the road in 1974 with the Band for Planet Waves, many of his latest songs seemed to lack the all-seeing perspective of his earlier work. Dylan would say Blood on the Tracks was influenced by lecture classes he took with painter.
