Released July 10, 2012. channel ORANGE Tracklist. Ocean made headlines because of his sexuality, but he made history with his music. The 25-year-old singer’s debut album is the most exciting R&B breakthrough in recent memory; Ocean evokes . decadence ( Super Rich Kids ), his stripper girlfriend (the nine-minute Pyramids ) and crushing out on a guy ( Bad Religion ) over plush, dark-tinted grooves that update Stevie and Marvin for the post-Drake era. His brags about his great gray matter aren’t just geek-chic bluster: Channel Orange unfurls new mysteries with every listen. channel ORANGE Q&A

Ocean released his debut studio album, Channel Orange, in July 2012; it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and was soon certified platinum. The album received universal acclaim from critics, and won Ocean his first Grammy Award, for Best Urban Contemporary Album. American singer Frank Ocean has released two studio albums, one mixtape, 18 singles and eight music videos. Following the flooding and destruction of his recording studio during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Ocean moved from his hometown of New Orleans to the Californian city of Los Angeles, where he sought to continue his musical career, eventually landing himself a songwriting contract. In 2009, Ocean signed to Def Jam Recordings as a solo artist

Frank Ocean has quickly proven himself to be among the most gifted singer-songwriters of his generation. His major-label debut swings from Stevie-style keyboard breeziness to 90s R&B to mystic psych rock to crunching 8-bit funk without thinking twice. It already feels like a classic. Frank Ocean has quickly proven himself to be among the most gifted singer-songwriters of his generation.

Frank Ocean took to his Tumblr page last night to release a video for what’s believed to be a new song off of an upcoming project. The track is supposedly titled TV. In the clip, the song plays as a camera pans around a car shrouded by darkness. At the end of the video, a message implies that a new project titled Channel Orange will be released on July 17th. It is unknown if it is his Def Jam debut or simply a mixtape to tide fans over until the former’s release. Check out the video below. UPDATE: According to Pitchfork, Channel Orange is the title of Frank Ocean’s Def Jam debut

Despite its faults, Channel ORANGE still marks Frank Ocean out as an intriguing and exciting artist. Beautiful composition. Very strong debut from Ocean and I expect more great things from him in the hopefully near future. Highlights include "Thinkin Bout You", "Super Rich Kids", and "Pyramids".
