Last week, Observer journalist Amelia Hill travelled to Inkberrow in Worcestershire, the village that was the inspiration for the fictional world of Ambridge, to meet Eddie Grundy senior - or, at least, the actor Trevor Harrison who has played the c. .

In 1979 Trevor joined The Archers as Eddie Grundy, a role which he has loved since day one. In the early 80s the Eddie Grundy fan club was formed, and the late John Walters and John Peel were among its founder members. Trevor has appeared on radio and TV in dramas and light entertainment including several months in Crossroads. For a while he had his own show on his local radio station BBC Hereford and Worcester.

Trevor Harrison (born 16 March 1957, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England) is an English actor best known for his role as Eddie Grundy in the BBC Radio 4 soap opera, The Archers. He was educated at the Grange Secondary Modern School in Stourbridge. Seeing Richard Harris in the film Camelot inspired him to become an actor, and he succeeded in getting an audition at Birmingham Theatre School.

In 1940, with Canada at war, the NFB launched its Canada Carries On series of morale boosting theatrical shorts; the success of Canada Carries On led to the creation of The World in Action, more geared to international audiences. In this period, other NFB films were issued as newsreels, such as The War Is Over, intended for theatrical showings; these films were based on current news and tackled wartime events as well as contemporary issues in Canadian culture.

Harrison has made a number of records in the guise of Eddie Grundy, and in the summer of 1996 released The World of Eddie Grundy by Trevor Harrison on Demon Records. In 2001, The Archers' 50th anniversary year, he was made an MBE for his services to radio drama, particularly for his role in The Archers.
