I, the Mask is the thirteenth studio album by the Swedish metal band In Flames, released on 1 March 2019 via Nuclear Blast. It is the band's first album since Whoracle to not feature longtime bassist Peter Iwers, and the first to feature bassist Bryce Paul and drummer Tanner Wayne. All tracks written by Anders Fridén, Björn Gelotte and Howard Benson, except "In This Life" written by Fridén, Gelotte, Benson, Seann Bowe and Lenny Skolnik.
I, the Mask is the thirteenth studio album by the Swedish metal band, In Flames. It was released on March 1st, 2019 via Nuclear Blast. It is the band’s first album since Whoracle (1997) to not feature longtime bassist Peter Iwers, and the first to feature drummer Tanner Wayne, although Joe Rickard recorded drums for the majority of the album. In regards to the theme, Anders Fridén (vocals) said.
So, as you understand, this is In Flames – just one of these groups that was not afraid to take the risk of sounding differently from one album to another, which earned the indignation of the metalheads of all times and peoples, and rightly, I think. On the theme of the old sound of many metal bands and their rising degree of lightness, we can talk forever, but I am glad that In Flames did not allow the audience to kick the dead horse’s corpse called melodic death metal. Clearly, if a group is not eager to do a certain genre, then all the same, nothing worthy will come out of music, even. It is called I, the Mask, and on the cover we see a dubious personality in a hefty mask – the symbol of the group since the time of the album The Jester Race. I think not so much is hidden in terms of meaning behind the cover.

Genre: Alternative Metal. after listening to this album I realise that the band is starting to find a compromise between their old sound and new, but they haven't quite reached it yet, but they are in the right direction. what stops this album from being better is the sound of the cymbals as they are drawn out and were distracting while listening as they reminded. me of the Steel sounding snare drum from St. Anger.
The result is a massive-sounding album that showcases why IN FLAMES are one of the biggest metal bands in the world. From the way acoustic guitars give way to to anthemic riffing on the power ballad ‘Call My Name’ to the relentless riffing on ‘Burn’ and sweetly syncopated groove of ‘I Am Above,’ I, The Mask sees the band stretching out musically and crafting music that's as catchy as it is crushing.
