George Jones recorded the song for his 1960 LP George Jones Salutes Hank Williams. Ray Charles covered the song in the first volume of his 1962 album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. Dean Martin included it "Hey, Good Lookin'" on his 1963 LP Country Style. Del Shannon recorded it for his 1964 album Del Shannon Sings Hank Williams. Ace Cannon recorded an instrumental version on his 1965 album Nashville Hits. Ernest Tubb included it on his 1968 LP Ernest Tubb Sings Hank Williams.
At this stage, George still sounded similar to Hank Williams, but he had begun to incorporate much of Williams' vocal techniques into a distinctive vocal style of his own. The album has been reissued multiple times since its release, including the tracks being reused on many compilations. The album was his second album release of the 1960s, and is one of the best sounding albums recorded with Mercury Records.

In 2001, Jones clarified their 16 year studio relationship, which continued through his 1965-1970 stint with Talmadge's Musicor Records. A lot of people think (Pappy) was the producer, but he really wasn't. He timed the songs in the studio and he wrote out the paperwork. That was about all he did. I worked with the musicians myself and we worked out the arrangements.
