1993 Вышел последний альбом с новым материалом: A Single Woman.

2003 Скончалась во сне от рака молочной железы в своём доме в городке Карри-ле-Руэ на юге Франции в возрасте 70 лет.

Release by the Estate of Nina Simone: "Freedom" Recording session: Documentary, excerpt from "Nina: An Historical Perspective" by Peter Rodis.

There's no question that Nina Simone is richly deserving of a three-CD (plus one DVD), 51-song box set such as To Be Free. From the late '50s until her death, she was one of the great unclassifiable pop singers of the 20th century, and if her voluminous recording career was erratic, the first 15 years at any rate had many highlights. Any complaint about this particular package has more to do with the balance of eras represented than the quality of the contents, which is generally very good. The most tantalizing item for serious Simone fans is the DVD of a 1970 television special, though it turns out to be a little less exciting than one might have hoped.

I'd heard Nina sing with her brother Samuel a couple of times, at a 1968 concert on the album Live at the Great Show in Paris (in fact, recorded at the Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival), and the It Is Finished album (1974), but if not for the release of "Let it Be Me" included on this set for the first time, . The set of TO BE FREE: THE NINA SIMONE STORY is the perfect box set for those interested in getting to know this wonderful singing legend. It encompasses Simone's singing career from 1957 - 1993, '93 being the last time she recorded professionally, and gathers recordings that were done for different record labels and puts it all on three CDs. If that weren't enough this set also includes one DVD that shows Simone being interviewed and performing in the recording studio and at cabarets and concert halls.

I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free. Arranged By, Conductor – Sammy LoweBass – Gene TaylorContractor, Alto Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Flute, Flute – Mel TaxDrums – Bernard PurdieGuitar – Eric GalePiano – Ernie HayesProducer – Danny Davis (4)Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Seldon PowellTrumpet – Ernie Royal, Marky MarkowitzVocals, Piano – Nina SimoneWritten-By – Billy Taylor, Dick Dallas.

Nina Simone was clearly the latter. Drawing on a wide swath of her catalog, from her first recording session to one of her last, producer Richard Seidel demonstrates how boldly she seized any song that caught her ear, as she marches through Duke Ellington, Kurt Weill, torch songs, folk songs, and the pop and rock hits of her day. A Julliard-trained pianist who played clubs while harboring an ambition to be a composer, Simone scored hits with a label that had to cede total creative control before she'd sign on their dotted line  . So many strong currents run through To Be Free that it's easy to cling to just one. But right when we focus on her as a protest singer, we fall into a haunted ballad like "The Other Woman"; and anyone who picks this up thinking they're getting brunch music wasn't counting on all the bongos.

There was only one Nina Simone, an original and highly imaginative artist whose style embodied a wide range of influences from musical Americana and beyond. To Be Free: The Nina Simone Story (three CDs and a DVD) is a fine boxed set overview of her career, emphasizing the live performances where she was most in her element.
