La Rosa was born in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended . At age 17, he joined the United States Navy after finishing high school, becoming a radioman. He sang in a Navy choir, at the officers' club, and at bars to pay for his drinks.

His last two hits came in 1966 and 1969, the first for MGM when You're Gonna Hear From Me, from the film Inside Daisy Clover, went to 21 on the Adult Contemporary (AC) charts in June 1966, while the other, for the Crew label, was Where Do I Go? Billed to Julius LaRosa with The Bob Crewe Generation, it made it to 24 AC in November 1969.

Julius La Rosa, a pop singer known for hits including "Eh, Cumpari," whose firing live on the air by Arthur Godfrey in 1953 overshadowed his successes that followed, has died. He was 86. His death was confirmed Saturday by his daughter, Maria La Rosa Smith, of Ridgefield, Conn. and Joe Charapata of the Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home in Crivitz, Wis. Smith said her father died Thursday in his sleep of natural causes at his home in Crivitz. Services will be private, she said
