This Bird Has Flown – A 40th Anniversary Tribute to the Beatles' Rubber Soul is a tribute album by a variety of artists that commemorates the 40th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' 1965 album Rubber Soul.
The Beatles' sixth studio album Rubber Soul is arguably the best album of all time, though some may argue it’s not even the best album The Beatles made. The album came after their exposure to Bob Dylan and pot. It was only their second album to contain completely original songs. The lyrical content on the album is markedly more sophisticated than their previous material. The name Rubber Soul is a pun on soul music and a shoe’s rubber sole
Is it possible that Rubber Soul really isn't that great of an album? I don't throw this eye-catcher out as mere inflammatory rabble-rousing- I'm not so perverse as that. But if you take a deep breath and really listen to the album, its brilliance is not so automatic, despite its importance to that transitional mid-60s pop period so many critics get heart flutters over. Focusing on a single album, as this compilation does, might be a good way to get some of the Beatles' less-appreciated deep cuts renewed attention, but it also forces the exhumation of tracks that would be better left uncelebrated. Other innovations include the use of electronic sound processing, especially the compressed and heavily equalized piano part on "The Word. Rubber soul: extra info
This mid-Sixties album catches the Beatles at the point they ceased to be interested in churning out one dance hit after another and started experimenting with more exotic styles. Norwegian Wood," for example, is in the Mixolydian mode, as opposed to a regular "Major" key. Other hits include "You Won't See Me, "The Word" and "Michelle. 20 people found this helpful.
The Fiery Furnaces take a different tack on "Norwegian Wood". Their psychedelic version spotlights the weirdness already implicit in the original. The Fiery Furnaces use keyboards, vocal quirks, and odd tempo changes instead of a sitar to reveal the disorienting effects that the woman had on the narrator. Musically, the song doesn't sound much like the one The Beatles' recorded. Hopefully this album will inspire people to listen to these tunes again as great songs rather than as relics of the '60s. various artists this bird has flown: a 40th anniversary tribute to the beatles' rubber soul. 7.
