Ever since hearing Naam's fantastic self titled debut album, I've been hungry for more. Putting a psychedelic twist on two classic Nirvana songs was a nice thing to tide fans over, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been dying to hear more original material from the band. Three years after the debut full length, Naam are back in full force, this time adding John Weingarten to their roster, who handles organ and synth duties. Although the band throws some new twists at us, this is still undeniably Naam. The biggest twist is apparent in the first song.

With their new EP The Ballad Of The Starchild, NAAM creates spacey, spacious, garage-bluesy kraut-psych with an epic scope and altered state intergalactic musings about time, space and the future. A vintage-sounding offering that manages to include elements of trance rock, acid-blues and psychedelic star-gazing, The Ballad Of The Starchild is the perfect accompaniment for ''exploring inner space and imagining outer space. Over the course of the EP's 25 minutes of brain damage, NAAM aim to hold infinity in the palm of their hand, and eternity in a half hour.

The Starchild" itself is a semi-interesting piece of early '70s hard rock. Imagine Deep Purple getting really baked and slowing down their basic attack into something a little more mellow but no less fierce. The rest of the songs could've been left on the cutting room floor; "Exit Theme" is just a redundant organ comp, "History's Son" is an excuse to use foreign sounding instruments without doing anything interesting with them. Lands Unknown" and "Sentry Of Skies" are essentially the same song in different time signatures, and. All in all, it would've been much better if these guys simply held onto "The Starchild" until they had a full album's worth of material, rather than building a bunch of excessive half-songs to pad it into an EP. Naam psych metal. Seth's 'Clyde Fans' and the Revolving Slowdown of a Declining Business.

One of the newest signings to Tee Pee, Naam is a three-piece band from Brooklyn, New York, United States whose blissed-out jam-heavy pyschedella is spotlighted on the 11 minute "Kingdom". Naam's characteristic brand of psychedelic droning stonermass on the Kingdom EP and the self titled full length (2009) will surely please fans of Dead Meadow, Grails and Sleep.
