An orchestra conducted by Bobby Byrne.

Byrne began his career when he was hired by the Dorsey Brothers in 1934 at only 16 years of age. He had his own orchestra from 1939 to 1942. After 1945 he began freelancing in New York. He founded a new orchestra in 1946. He worked often on television, leading a dixieland combo on Steve Allen's program from 1952 to 1954, and performing on the shows of Milton Berle, Perry Como, and Patti Page. He also served as A&R director for labels Command and Evolution (3) and often performed as a studio musician for that label

Enoch Henry Light (18 August 1905, in Canton, Ohio – 31 July 1978, in Redding, Connecticut) was a classically trained violinist, danceband leader, and recording engineer. As the leader of various dance bands that recorded as early as March 1927 and continuing through at least 1940, Light and his band primarily worked in various hotels in New York. For a time in 1928 he also led a band in Paris. In the 1930s Light also studied conducting with the French conductor Maurice Frigara in Paris.

But it with his next venture, the Electric Light Orchestra, in which Wood also briefly collaborated, that Lynne truly found his voice. As that arch, punning name indicated, ELO fused electric rock and pop with classical influences, creating a sound that was truly unique. Their classic line-up had Lynne backed by six musicians, including a violinist and two cellists – which, in 1977, was somewhat out of step with the rising tide of punk rock. Rock ‘N’ Roll Is King was a top 20 hit, but the song was as hokey as its title. Four Little Diamonds sounded like something The Beatles had knocked off in five minutes when they were bored.

Electric Light Orchestra is ranked number 165 in the overall artist rankings with a total rank score of 20,061. Members who like this artist also like: Pink Floyd, Queen and Led Zeppelin. Hiring in a full orchestra gave ELO the authentic oomph the concept demanded, and instantly they blasted class. Come 1975, as Lynne tried out his newfound orchestral superpowers on early disco (Evil Woman), colliery hoedowns (Down Home Town) and Poker, in which – trollbait alert – ELO predicted UK punk, his primary strength was still in bombastic balladeering. Waterfall was a stately Niagara of languorous melody, but Strange Magic stands as ELO’s finest smoocher. A concept album about a man abducted to a 2095 of human clones, moon tourism, prison satellites, hovercars and 4G android girlfriends, it shed the symphonic for the synthetic, with vocoder vocals and post-disco sci-fi synth riffs.

The third album by Jack and Meg White was the right dynamite for a mainstream breakthrough. Jack’s Delta-roadhouse fantasies, Detroit-garage-rock razzle and busted-love lyricism, as well as Meg’s toy-thunder drumming all peaked at once. Annie Lennox looked like a gender-bending cybor, but she sang with soul; producer Dave Stewart hid behind his beard and masterminded the sound. Together they made divine synth pop, especially Who’s That Girl?, a tale of kinked-up sexual obsession, and their massive hit Here Comes the Rain Again.
