The recording was done at the EMI Abbey Road Studio in London. Singer-guitarist Joe Brown had bought an Italian-built guitar echo chamber that he did not like and gave it to Hank Marvin, who developed a distinctive sound using it and the tremolo arm of his Fender Stratocaster. Bruce Welch borrowed an acoustic Gibson J200 guitar from Cliff Richard, the heavy melodic bass was by Jet Harris, percussion was by Tony Meehan and Cliff Richard, who played a Chinese drum at the beginning and end to provide an atmosphere of stereotypically Native American music.

The Wild Places is the third studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician Duncan Browne. Released in 1978 through Logo and Sire Records, it is Browne's first solo album since his departure from the band Metro that year, and features contributions from session musicians Tony Hymas, John Giblin and Simon Phillips. In contrast to his previous self-titled solo record, the sound of the album is fully electric and ranges from progressive rock to straightforward rock music and synthpop.

ALLAN BROWNE Musician 28-7-1944 – 13-6-2015. Allan Browne was a drummer "without peer - and without jetty". Well, that is the sort of quirky thing Al would say - although he would never have viewed himself as peerless. But Browne was undoubtably one of Australia's most significant improvising musicians and his death at 71 leaves a gap, particularly on the Melbourne jazz scene, that will be felt for years to come. The stylistic diversity of Browne's jazz was in many ways ahead of its time. His recording Genre Jumping Jazz (1989) sought to demonstrate the continuities inherent in jazz music throughout its history, permitting traditional styles to coexist in single pieces with so-called modern ones. It traced a line that runs through the twentieth century between jazz's earliest practitioners and those working in the present.

Browne is steeped in playing the music of Ellington, Armstrong and Morton in the 1920s style; Hannaford is one of the most forward thinking Australian jazz musicians and Annings warmth ensures the results never seem like a musicological exercise. These interpretations of classic compositions by Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Thelonious Monk and Louis Armstrong, along with two originals, are an affectionate tribute to great music.
